A significant initiative is underway to establish an offshore logistics base in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. This proposed facility aims to provide crucial support for future offshore oil and gas exploration activities.
A joint development agreement has been formalised between a Lagos-based free zone and offshore logistics company, and the National Oil Company of Liberia. This agreement outlines the collaborative effort to develop the shore base infrastructure.
The primary objective behind this development is to ensure that future offshore drilling campaigns in Liberia can source necessary equipment, transport, and services domestically. This strategy seeks to retain job opportunities, contractual engagements, and training within the nation, addressing previous reliance on neighbouring countries for support. According to Billionaires.Africa, the National Oil Company of Liberia indicated that past drilling operations procured essential services from Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Senegal.
